5 Business Resolutions to Consider for 2016

How was 2015 for your business? Maybe it was a fruitful year. Perhaps you think that you could have done better. Regardless of how the past 12 months went down for your venture, one thing is for sure: A new year just rolled in. So it’s time to once again roll up your sleeves and work on making 2016 the best year ever for your business.

To kick-start your game this year, here are 5 business resolutions to consider for 2016:

Calm your customers’ fears. A Fortune Magazine article states anxiety will be the ruling emotion of 2016. This is driven by many factors: lack of time, the fear of being disconnected, the hunt for more convenience, among a few.

Thus, if you want more support for business, a good move is to focus on calming the anxieties of your customers. You can do this through a number of things. You might want to add easier and more secure payment options for buyers. You may want to look into distributing marketing messages that increase trust and assurance. You may need to create accessible content such as explainer videos or infographics that address the questions and doubts of your audience.

Be more searchable, visible and personable with mobile. One of the moves that you should have accomplished last year was to make your website mobile-friendly. If you haven’t done so, it’s not too late either. Search via mobile is now bigger than search via desktop devices. The so-called mobile revolution continues to accelerate. So you really have no choice: go mobile if you want to survive.

Invest in content marketing 2.0. You already might have heard a few years ago that content is king. It still is in 2016. But creating and publishing content won’t be enough anymore. You’ve got to be strategic with your content marketing so the content you produce doesn’t only inform, entertain or both, but also builds and strengthens relationships with your customers.

Go local. In 2016, it’s not just what you are. Also more critical is where you are. Geo-targeting will be one of your most powerful marketing tools and a key to boosting your conversion rates. When making content, carrying out campaigns or releasing advertising material, take location into account. Match key factors—including language, currency, calls-to-action, visual elements, etc.—to the culture, market behaviors and preferences of each place you are targeting.

Always be in beta mode. Author Tom Friedman says that to survive today’s fast-changing, hyper-connected world, you have to always consider yourself as a work in progress. As an entrepreneur, think like a developer. Keep on testing. Experiment. Always make room for change. And see failure as a step to improvement.
